Sucrose — An alchemist. Passing the bridge was purely by chance.

Grandma Tang & Grandpa Xue — They’ve lived near this pedestrian bridge for over a decade. Their neighborhood lacks facilities, so they often cross to the town side—for the pharmacy, for the hospital.

Brother Su — In his 50s. He crosses nearly every day to care for his aging parents who live across the bridge. He also works from home, helping his child pack parcels.

Sister Zou — Age 38. While delivering food, her GPS led her to the wrong route. In a rush, she left her scooter behind and ran across the bridge to find the right address.

Xiao Ou & Xiao Luo — College juniors. This bridge connects their remote campus with the more lively town nearby. It’s their necessary route for snacks and groceries.

Xiao Zhang — A second-year student who crosses the bridge daily. He says, “It’s the other side of the bridge that feels more alive.”

People on the Bridge

Expressways make travel faster, while creating boundaries between neighborhoods, villages and urban spaces. Pedestrian bridges become part of everyday life for those living on either side.

People on the Bridge records these people, their crossings and the surrounding spaces, exploring how infrastructure and daily life meet through the small stories of those who cross.
